"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?" - Vincent Van Gogh

It’s 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday and I am just chilling after a day at the beach.

I am scrolling through my Whatsapp trying to read the messages that I had starred during the week.

Life in the “bundus” is super busy and I chose to schedule some items for the weekend with less pressure.

Wondering what the “bundus” are…?

Hehehe, hata sijui tuanzie wapi … , but just stick around.

With time, we will get acquainted with the terminology.

Anyway, back to my starred messages…

As I skim through them, I come across a write-up by a friend, mr.job- an Award-winning creative, who just began a new career assignment.

The assignment drove him through a major life transition and he candidly explained how chaotic it has been.

His regular life patterns in terms of relationships, clientele, family, finances and even self, have been massively disrupted. Azzzinn, everything he thought he had put together is getting disorganized right before his eyes.

But what do we do when the Lord directs us to a different path? When He presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a chance for growth? A chance to honor Him even though it triggers turbulence in various aspects of our lives?

Mr. Job puts it really well…

… Some of us have been used to super structures and meticulous processes for the better part of our lives, and we strive to have everything running with no hiccups…

But what happens when everything shifts?

… When you have to move to a new place with different cultures and behavior. Umezoea the “gangster life” in Nairobi where everyone minds their own business, then unaenda place ya “shikamoo na marahabaaa mwanangu” left, right and center.

…When you have to develop a thicker skin because of the environment you have found yourself in.

… When you have to balance your work life, spiritual growth and social life?

…When you are afraid of what could go wrong, instead of being excited about what could go right during this new chapter of your life.

There are new colleagues, new friends, new church, new neighbors, new culture…wueeh!

… new everything!

Well…, I just got a new assignment as a graduate trainee in one of Kenya’s largest mining companies, all the way in Kwale County on Kenya’s Coast.

Come with me! And remember to fix your hard hat and fasten the laces of your boots.

I would love to show you around.
