Adulthood: A mix of sunny and rainy days
It’s Saturday morning, and after such a ghettoed week, I seriously need to mellow out. Guys, when I say ghettoed, I mean the real ghetto! Have you ever had a Friday evening when you walked through your front door, dropped your bag, and just wondered how you ended up in this whirlwind of adulthood? When you catch yourself yearning for an even more “adultier” adult to help you navigate through your super-detailed life? Cause wueeeh, wharrathese?!
You realize adulthood has kicked in when you have to schedule even your calls so that your resting time isn’t eaten into; when sleep is a coveted treasure and it isn’t just sleep anymore, but an escape from the never-ending, tiring activities of the day; when even going out seems like an event that drains your very essence!
Looking back, as a kid, I just never wrapped my mind around the reason why my mother never picked up some of the calls over the weekend, but now, I think I totally do.
Life in the ‘Bundus’ hasn’t been child’s play either, especially with the rains knocking! My beloved safety boots have had to give way to gumboots, bogging has been the order of the day, and in my raincoat, I am literally learning to dance in the rain! Lemme assure you that it’s not as fancy as you picture it. Vitu kwa ground ni different.
Some of these days have literally left me stuck down in the dumps, but si ni life? It’s a mix of beautiful sunny days that make your heart sing and rainy days that leave you feeling like you’re sinking, but through it all, we learn to give thanks for the adventure that it is, and the growth it brings about!
And as I glance at the calendar, there’s another reason to be thankful. My birthday month is just around the corner. As a kid, birthdays were all about cakes, candles, and presents, but now as an adult, they’ve taken on a different flavor. They’re a reminder of the passage of time, of experiences gained, and the exciting journey still ahead.
